Asbestos containing materials can degrade or become damaged over time, increasing the risk of exposure to asbestos dust.
If asbestos containing materials (ACM) are identified on your site, they must be checked on a regular basis, in accordance with Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations,
2012.
Checks should be conducted at least once a year, to ensure that the materials remain in a safe and stable condition.
Special attention should be given to ACM in locations where they could become damaged or worn and potentially release asbestos dust (e.g. wall panels in areas frequented by fork-lift trucks or other vehicles).
Where possible, effective barriers or protective coatings should be installed to ensure that the material remains in a safe condition.
Records should be maintained of all monitoring, including inspection dates and results. Photographs are a good way of proving the condition of an ACM on a specific date.
